2020 Black History Calendar

Black Health Matters is pleased to offer its first GameChangers calendar. The calendar is a celebration of thought-leaders in medicine from the past and present. African Americans were, are and will forever be an important part of American medicine.

We honor these professionals with this calendar.  We just love our African American physicians!  As a general rule, African American patients are more likely to feel comfortable with African American doctors. Studies have shown that they are more likely to seek them out for treatment, and to report higher satisfaction with their care. In addition, more African American doctors practice in high-poverty communities of color, where physicians are relatively scarce. The New York Times recently reported that African American men seeing African American male doctors were much more likely to agree to certain preventive measures than were black men seeing doctors who were white or other ethnicities.

We are extremely fortunate to have the support of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in creating this educational calendar.  Alnylam is a partner that shares our belief in the importance of education to improve health disparities. We are excited that they join us in celebrating the achievements of African American clinicians.
