Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables can help protect our hair and skin from sun damage, toxins and environmental elements. That’s why eating eight servings a day is so important. But did you know you could reap some of the same great benefits from fruits and veggies (and other food) that you put on your body instead of just in it?
Avocados are packed with nearly 20 vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Create an exfoliating scrub from ground avocado (the meat and the pit), cornmeal and sea salt, and massage away winter dryness from your hands and feet.
Soften and moisturize coarse hair with honey. Mix two tablespoons of honey with 1/3 cup of olive oil and apply to dry hair. Wash it out after 30 minutes.
Mayonnaise might be bad for your waistline, but oils in it leave your hair frizz-free. Simply slather the sandwich staple onto dry hair and leave it in for 30 minutes before shampooing.
SALT & SUGAR
Salt and sugar get a bad rap for contributing to high blood pressure and obesity. Make scrubs out of them, however, and your skin will thank you. Combine salt with olive, avocado or jojoba oil to exfoliate bumpy skin. If your skin is sensitive, mix sugar with any of these oils.
Make a mask from mushed strawberries and rub it over your face. The red fruit reduces oil and gives you a glow. Bonus: They also whiten your teeth.
