Barack Obama Tests Positive For COVID-19

Former President Barack Obama announced Sunday that he tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully, former first lady, Michelle Obama, has tested negative. “I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days but am feeling fine otherwise,” he said on his Twitter page. Obama posted on his Facebook page how grateful he and Michelle were for the vaccine and booster. And in true Barack Obama fashion, he turned his current situation into a lesson for all.

Obama is the second known U.S. President to have contracted COVID-19. Former President Trump tested positive back in October 2020. Unlike Trump, Obama has been at the forefront of public health measures throughout the pandemic. He scaled back his grand 60th birthday party due to concerns about the Delta variant

There were roughly 35,000 reported cases on average over the past week, which is a tremendous decline from mid-January’s average of 800,000. According to the CDC, the fully vaccinated account for 75.2% of U.S. adults, and 47.7% received booster shots. Recently, the CDC relaxed its guidelines for indoor masking for fully vaccinated people. Currently, mask recommendations still stand for communities at high risk for the virus.

An outpour of love and well-wishes flooded in for the former president. We are wishing him a speedy recovery!
