Risk factors increase your chances of getting a disease or condition. The more of these 10 risk factors you have, the higher your likelihood of of developing type 2 diabetes:
Older than age 45
African American (as well as Native American, Latino and Asian)
Parent, brother or sister with diabetes
Diabetes during pregnancy, also known as gestational diabetes
History of having a baby weighing more than 9 pounds
High blood pressure
Physical inactivity
Overweight or obese
High cholesterol
High triglycerides
