Singer Lizzo tackles self-love in her new single ‘If You Love Me’ during the iHeartRadio Living Black! It doesn’t matter your age; self-love is a concept that many people struggle with. The “Juice” singer has frequently used her platform to speak about body positivity, humanitarianism, and more. She’s constantly criticized for her looks – weight, skin, etc. Therefore, it is no shock she created this message through art.
Self-Love Expressed Through Art
Sporting a crystalized doobie wrap, she began her performance discussing giving back. “It feels so good to help others, especially now more than ever,” Lizzo said. “We have access to the news 24/7, and we’re seeing the state of the world. I feel like everybody feels hopeless and helpless and wants to give back.” Lizzo gives back through her annual Juneteenth giveaway in which the singer supports small Black businesses.
Shortly after, she debuted a new self-love anthem, “If You Love Me.” Lizzo had on a sash that read “Black Beauty Queen.” Her words were powerful, singing, “if you love me, you love me or none of me at all.” Other full-figured women stroll across the stage as she sings. She reminded all of the contestants that they were deserving of a crown. Shortly after, Lizzo belts out, “If you love me, you love all of me or none of me at all!”
Recently, Lizzo covered People Magazine, and she mentioned how she rejects the negative stereotypes that come with being a big girl. And that growing up, she was always labeled the “funny big girl” or “cute for a big girl,” but she wants plus-size women to be freed from those types of labels. She later shared that she adores her body. “I think I have a really hot body! I’m a body icon, and I’m embracing that more…” And a body icon she is. Lizzo shows all women of all body types that they are beautiful.
