R&B Singer Jesse Powell Passes Away At Age 51

R&B singer and Grammy nominee Jesse Powell passes away at age 51. As of now, Powell’s cause of death hasn’t been announced. Yesterday, the singer’s sisters Trina and Tamara Powell shared messages on social media announcing their older brother’s passing.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell. He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home,” reads Tamara’s Instagram post. “The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy. Jesse loved music, and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career.”

“We want you all to know that you meant the world to him,” concluded the post (which Trina also shared on Facebook), signing off, “The Powell Family.”

Earlier today, Tamara shared a second Instagram video of her late brother performing his hit single “You.” “That voice!” Tamara wrote. “Aside from being one of the best R&B male vocalists out there, you were the best big brother ever. I loved you so much.” “🥺 I’m thankful that we were so close; a whole mess all the time. 😅🍃💨,” she added. “We absolutely adored you, “Jet,” & our family will not be the same without you.”

About Jesse Powell

Jesse Powell was born in Gary, Indiana, on September 12th, 1971. Powell grew up performing in local talent shows with his sisters. In 1993, he started working with producer Carl Roland and earned his big break in the music industry when record executive Louis Silas Jr. discovered Powell at an artist showcase.

Powell released four albums between 1996 and 2003, and his second album, “Bout It,” became certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1999. One of his biggest hits was “You,” initially released on his debut album but rereleased as a single in 1999. The single peaked at number 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. In addition, the single garnered nearly 13 million lifetimes of Spotify streams. Powell’s third album, “JP,” noted that Powell had a four-octave vocal range, which is extremely rare for singers. On July 1st, Powell released his single “Addison Walker” on Spotify, a 58-second long instrumental track.

The music industry has lost a true talent and we condolences to his family and close friends.
